This prestigious award is presented by FOC to the individual or organisation that has, in the judgement of the Committee, made an outstanding contribution to the hobby which reflects the attitudes and approach of Al Slater, G3FXB.

This year's recipient, who received the award at FOC's annual dinner, is Don Beatie, G3BJ.

Don is a past-President of the RSGB. When some necessary adjustments to the managing structure appeared, he took over the task of Acting General Manager and thus ensured the continued running of the society’s day-by-day affairs. He was quite recently relieved in this role but continues as a member of the RSGB Board.

Don is probably equally well known as a member of the core management team, actually co-leader, of the Five Star DX Association ( FSDXA) which has carried out many of the most successful  DXpeditions; 9M0C, D68C, 3B9C, 3B7C and the latest, record breaking, T32C. The DX fraternity are only too well aware of the lengthy planning and preparation which starts literally years before the event takes place.

Don has a well sited and equally well equipped station, to which many visitors are frequently invited to operate as well as participate in contests.

We congratulate Don Beattie, G3BJ on being named this year's Al Slater Award recipient.
