Bob Nadolny, WB2YQH

FOC# 1606, SK Date : August 14, 2024

With much sadness, we must report the pasing of Bob Nadolny, WB2YQH (1606).
He was in ICU for about a week with anemia, and passed peacefully with his family at his side.

He was much more than just an FOC member, because of all he did for us:
– Proofread the FOCUS and interfaced with Susan K5DU, our editor.
– Gathered News Sheet articles, and interfaced with Gabor S57WJ.
– Mailed FOCUS and the Yearbook to North and South American members.
– Was a Committee member for many years.
– This is just a high-level of what Bob did for FOC.

Bob joined FOC in May 1992, and used K2FOC in many FOC operating events.
He had an eagle eye for details, and FOC is poorer for his passing.
Our deepest sympathies to his XYL Marcia and his family.

Bob will be missed, especially by your Membership Secretary.
He had a flag on my callsign, and whenever I could be QRV he would find me.
We will not see one like him again.

RIP Bob.

Bob Nadolny, WB2YQH

A tremendous amateur radio operator who loved Morse Code (CW) and it showed in his proficiency. He was a teenage member of the Buffalo Area DX Club (BADXC), where he formed lifelong friendships with many fellow hams. Bob took his lifelong hobby seriously and served many of his fellow hams well, including running a local “bureau service” for his buddies wishing to exchange QSL cards with hams around the world.

Bob served as an ARRL QSL “card checker” for his ham buddies wishing to win or improve their radio awards. The BADXC later morphed into a new group of hams that love communicating around the world, the Western NY DX Association. (WNYDXA). As an active member of the Western NY DX Association since the 1980’s, Bob served in several capacities, mostly as secretary. As a member of the American Radio Relay League, he was a member of the DXCC Honor Roll, where he achieved #1 status. His father Gene, callsign W2FXA, also a great DX’er, was very proud of Bob following in his Ham radio footsteps.

Officer and editor to FOC (First Class CW Operators Club), a radio club based in England, where he was a valued member of the committee and almost daily loved to get on the air on Morse Code (CW) and talk to his many friends around the world. He was a very active member and loved serving the club. He was editor to the quarterly FOCUS magazine and he mailed it out to North American members faithfully. He was also monthly Coordinating editor and publisher of the club’s News Sheet. To say he loved his time with FOC would be an understatement.

Bob had a great Amateur Radio station set up at his West Seneca NY home, with some state of the art equipment and a 40′ tower in the yard for his antenna.

Bob was a graduate of Canisius College where he was enrolled in the Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (ROTC).

Bob was a loving husband of Marcia (nee Szczepanik) Nadolny. Devoted father of Matthew J. (Tracy) Nadolny and Scott R. (Kathryn) Nadolny. Loving grandfather of Laura, Charlotte, and Isabel Nadolny and step-grandfather of Alexis Krebs.
