It was not long  ago when I heard Gene, as usual chasing and working DX.  He was a FB operator.   My first memories of him go back to December 1962, when he gave me a new country as FS7GS. He had also operated from the Dutch side of St. Martin as PJ5MB, but I had previously worked SK FOC member PJ2ME from there.    Gene’s 2 country operation was as as good an operation as you could fine.  FYI, Gene was the SECOND most senior FOC member in the  USA.  His # 698 is preceded only by Bill – K2TT #675.  I only met Gene once at the Dayton HARA flea market.  He said he had been looking for me and wanted to talk about keys..  He gave me the impression he had a very nice collection of  straight keys.  I sure hate to see this.   By the way, Gene’s original call was K9KDI.
